Blair Ryan

20110811.WelcomeToT1Shoot.23.8x10.VBlair Ryan met Insulindependence in 2007. Through the end of undergraduate school and throughout graduate school, Blair traveled domestically and internationally doing photojournalistic and other volunteer work at Insulindependence events.
 
Blair Ryan earned her master’s degree in magazine journalism at the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communication. She has a B.A. in biological anthropology and a minor in political science from the University of California, San Diego. While at the University of Oregon, Blair worked as a staff photographer at the Oregon Daily Emerald newspaper and was a freelance photographer and writer for two independent magazines in Eugene. She has guest lectured to undergraduate classes on the topics of ethics in photography and using photography as a participatory research method.
 
in 2010, Blair completed at 11,000-mile circumnavigation of the nation in her car, profiling the Captains of the 2010-2011 Triabetes triathlon club. Her masters Terminal Project, Give it a Shot Films, is a collection of multimedia pieces that gives viewers a glimpse into the lives of the ten individuals with Type 1 diabetes who took on the challenge of an Ironman triathlon in order to demonstrate that diabetes need not be limiting and educate others in the diabetic community that exercise is essential in management of the disease.
 
Blair has had Type 1 diabetes since 2000 and is an accomplished collegiate distance runner, triathlete and cyclist.
 
She currently lives in San Diego, California.
